to Empower Belt and Road
By Justin Zhang | Executive Director – China Market
On January 29, the China market insurance placement risk roadshow for the global master insurance program of Aboitiz Power, a leading energy group in the Philippines, was successfully held in Lingang, Shanghai. Co-hosted by Huatai Insurance Brokers and the Shanghai International Reinsurance Registration and Trading Center, the roadshow saw the attendance of Justin Zhang, Representative of Klapton Insurance Company (KIC) for China. As an insurance institution with in-depth participation in relevant energy projects of Aboitiz Power in the Philippines, KIC’s presence at this roadshow is primarily aimed at leveraging its practical experience in local projects in the Philippines to further deepen the strategic cooperation with Huatai Insurance Brokers, expand its share in Aboitiz Power’s global master insurance program, and inject strong impetus into the energy construction under China’s the Belt and Road Initiative with professional cross-border insurance services.
This roadshow in Lingang is the first stop of Aboitiz Power’s global roadshow across four locations in 2026, and also the group’s first roadshow for its global master insurance program held in the Chinese market. It gathered more than 100 experts and representatives from over 20 insurance and reinsurance companies, serving as an important bridge for China-Philippines energy insurance cooperation and a key opportunity for the Chinese insurance market to connect with the risk protection demands of global energy projects. As a leading energy enterprise in the Philippines, Aboitiz Power accounts for more than 20% of the local power demand. It is an important partner of China’s energy construction and equipment supply enterprises. The group’s move to allocate its overall insurance business to the Chinese market has created broad space for in-depth cooperation between Chinese and foreign insurance institutions.
At the roadshow, Justin Zhang clearly stated KIC’s core goal of deepening cooperation. He pointed out that participating in this roadshow is a crucial opportunity for KIC to further join hands with Huatai Insurance Brokers and deepen its layout in Aboitiz Power’s global master insurance program. Taking the existing project cooperation in the Philippines as a starting point, KIC hopes to integrate the professional advantages and industry resources of both parties with Huatai Insurance Brokers, conduct all-round in-depth collaboration in insurance product design, risk sharing, and the implementation of cross-border services, continuously expand its share in Aboitiz Power’s global master insurance program, and jointly create more tailored, efficient and convenient cross-border insurance solutions for the group’s global businesses, including new energy projects constructed and supplied with equipment by Chinese enterprises.
During the roadshow, Justin Zhang held one-on-one in-depth exchanges with the relevant person in charge of Huatai Insurance Brokers and Aboitiz Power. They exchanged views on key issues such as underwriting terms, service processes and collaborative risk protection for future cooperation, and reached initial cooperation consensus, laying a solid foundation for both parties to expand cooperation share and advance the implementation of cooperation in the follow-up.
KIC’s appearance at the Lingang roadshow is an important measure for the company to deepen its layout in China’s cross-border insurance market under the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen China-Philippines insurance cooperation. Going forward, taking this roadshow as an opportunity, KIC will accelerate the advancement of cooperation implementation with Huatai Insurance Brokers and Aboitiz Power, build a solid risk barrier for China-Philippines energy cooperation with professional cross-border insurance services, and continue to support Chinese enterprises in participating in overseas project construction under the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing insurance strength to the high-quality development of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
